Panama City vs Port Gellhorn

Panama City on the Florida Panhandle next to GTA 6's Port Gellhorn: wide roads, power lines and low, sun-bleached buildings.

How Port Gellhorn compares with the real Panama City

Panama City and Panama City Beach sit on the Gulf Coast in Florida's Panhandle, a long way from Miami in distance and in feel. Away from the beachfront condos, it is a place of wide highways, overhead power lines, motels, strip malls and mobile homes, and much of Bay County was badly damaged by Hurricane Michael in 2018.

Port Gellhorn is Rockstar's take on that side of Florida, and its tagline, “Live Hard”, sets the tone. The screenshot looks over the town at sunset: trailers and single-storey houses, a water tower, sagging power lines and dirt yards, all washed in orange haze.

Rockstar has pushed the decline much further than the real city. The photo above shows a neat, sunny road, while Port Gellhorn looks worn down and half abandoned. The community match is a broad one: fans compare the region to Panama City and its neighbours, with Port Tampa Bay and the Sunshine Skyway as models for its docks and its bridge.

Community matchRockstar has not said which real places it based Port Gellhorn on. This match comes from The Games Wiki (GTA 6), and the photos show the same kind of view rather than the exact same spot. Every word above is our own.
